Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is a remastered version of the singleplayer campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The game was primarily developed by Beenox.
Development for the game began in 2008, when it was still known as Call of Duty 6. It uses the IW 4.0 engine, an improved version of Call of Duty 4's IW 3.0. Infinity Ward was inspired by real-life conflicts when developing the campaign mode. They initially tested the multiplayer mode by playing an in-house beta version of the game. Modern Warfare 2 was officially announced in February 2009. Teasing of the game began in March, with short trailers being released for the game and, eventually, a full reveal trailer. The multiplayer mode was revealed shortly after. Two downloadable content packs were released for it post-release, each containing five new multiplayer maps, with some being remastered maps from Call of Duty 4.
1UP.com stated "Mixing real-world locations with bombastic set-pieces MW2 continues the guided, thrill-ride experiences of its predecessor, and adds even more depth to its multiplayer offerings. It might not have fixed all the problems from the first game, but there's just so much quality content packed into this game that it will almost certainly be one of the most-played games in your library for a long time to come". Game Informer noted praised the game for its polish and iteration on the series, as well as its strong presentation and wealth of playable content. IGN called it a "no-brainer purchase", thanks to its online multiplayer, its co-op mode, and its campaign. GameTrailers stated "The air of unpredictability and the care that was paid to each separate element puts it in lofty company. The multiplayer hasn't received an overhaul, but considering most shooters are still playing catch-up with Call of Duty 4, the tweaks and twists make it the best multiplayer shooting experience in the industry. Few games manage to meet such high expectations". Computer and Video Games called the game "Loud, epic and incredibly polished, [and] this year's biggest must-have shooter".

Activision wasn't specific on what has and hasn't made the cut, of course, only that you should expect more of them. For now, you'll just have to enjoy the campaign's remastered visuals and sounds - unless you don't own a PS4, of course. In which case, you'll get this opportunity beginning April 30.
After many rumors and leaks, Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is finally upon us. The speculation from yesterday turned out to be true as Activision is now selling the fully remastered campaign mode from 2009's hit Call of Duty entry. Possibly the most popular and successful iteration of the entire series is now playable in modern HD glory...as long as you have a PS4.
Upon booting up the first mission of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, I was immediately blown away. Many games from the last generation of consoles look blurry compared to modern games and, even when remastered, can still be rough around the edge. Luckily, this could not be further from the case for Modern Warfare 2.
Call of Duty news site CharlieIntel also shared a 'leaked' trailer for the remastered campaign, having supposedly got the tip-off from PlayStation Store Germany - which said the release could be coming on 31 March, and listed the game to purchase for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC for $30, requiring roughly 45GB of storage.
CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE 2 CAMPAIGN REMASTERED is a graphically enhanced re-release of the story mode found in 2009's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The six-hour campaign leads players through the events leading up to and beginning a third world war against Russian ultranationalists, including one of the most notorious missions in the history of the franchise, in which players take on the role of an undercover soldier working with terrorists who's forced to watch -- and, if the player feels the need to better blend in, take part in -- the slaughter of dozens of innocent civilians and police officers. Other missions, such as a raid on an enemy base and a fight to save a besieged city, offer more traditional war action, with players directed to avoid civilian casualties as they pursue their objectives. As a remaster, this version of the game plays very similarly to the original, with classic first-person shooter controls and brief scenarios that involve climbing, driving a snowmobile, and manning turrets. The primary differences are visual in nature, including more detailed models and textures and a higher resolution and frame rate. As the game's title implies, the popular multiplayer modes from the original aren't included.
Call of Duty has always delivered breathless action and realistic graphics, so it's no surprise that this remaster, despite coming more than a decade after the original, doesn't feel all that old. Of course, it helps that no expense has been spared in tweaking Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered for modern consoles and televisions. Its characters, weapons, and environments can't quite go head-to-head with those of current big-budget blockbusters, but they're nonetheless impressively detailed and dynamic, with neat little flourishes such as the ability to tap down on the D-pad to inspect the weapon you're currently holding. And with support for 4K, HDR, and ultra-widescreen PC setups, players running the game on the latest hardware and televisions can rest assured that they will get to see the ultimate version of this campaign.
That said, prospective purchasers should keep in mind that this is a pretty short campaign. Unless you plan to work through the story multiple times, expect no more than six or seven hours of play. There are some extras, such as the Museum, where players can observe characters and vehicles from the game, but don't expect the bonus content to add much. Without the multiplayer modes -- which is where most Call of Duty players spend the bulk of their time -- there's little reason to stick around once the credits roll. In the end, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered neatly serves the needs of two types of players: older gamers nostalgic for what some consider to be the franchise's heyday, and modern fans who were too young to play it the first time around but are curious to learn what the fuss was all about. If you fit neither group, feel free to take a pass.
